Advocacy

Many crime victims require Victim Support Service (VSS) to advocate on their behalf with other organisations from which services are sought. These organisations may include the public housing authority (Housing SA), South Australia Police (SAPOL) or the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to name a few.

Persons seeking support are invited to contact VSS. At the first point of contact, an Administration Assistant will record the caller's details and arrange for a Duty Worker from the Intake, Assessment & Brief Intervention Team to respond within 2 working days.

From time-to-time, VSS staff identify an issue that goes beyond an individual concern and respresents an issue that many people are adversely affected by. Some examples of these have been:

  • the reported fear that elderly people have about being a crime victim.
  • the inability of women and children to gain Victims of Crime Compensation in sexual assault matters where no conviction is made in court.
